Some of the more standard behaviors of household pets are included, but readers will also meet a hippo that opens doors with his lips, a bison that rides in cars, an owl that goes on bike rides, and a group of elephants that play in an orchestra. Three "Readers' Choice" sections offer a themed collection from which children can vote for their favorite online (votes immediately accumulate into a bar graph). Most of the "true stories" fill half a page with a catchy title, like "Gorilla Walks Like a Dude!," a colorful photo, an explanatory paragraph, a background or fact caption, and often a speech bubble with the animal's comment. A few entries are given spreads and include multiple photos. Colorful borders surround all the elements, which are arranged scrapbook-style over vivid backgrounds. My granddaughter loves to read and grabbed this book on Christmas Day and took it off to read, despite a bundle of toys under the tree. Very well done; great stories and pictures.

As per usual with Christmas, birthdays and kids, the childless one (me) came bearing books...and this one was far and away THE favorite with the kids AND their parents. Just about every turn of the page elicited a "Wow, just look at THIS!!!."While it's unlikely you know me, my tastes and those of the kids in my life, nor I you and yours, I nonetheless think it's a pretty safe bet to recommend that if you're shopping anytime soon for a child in the 7-10 age range who loves animals and loves to read, picking this book is likely to ensure you've picked a winner.

My 7 year old loves this book! It is full of fun facts and great pictures. It really captures his attention. He loves to tell me about what he has read in this book. Highly recommend for any curious child.

If your kid/s love animals, this book is awesome!! My daughter received this from the Easter Bunny (my daughter is 8), and out of all the candy and toys, this is what she was most excited about! And what parent doesn't love to promote literacy, while putting a smile on their child's face!! Worth the buy. And it came on time I'm perfect condition!

Nice book for a 10 years old. Wish it was printed the size of a regular book and not a magazine size. Kind of difficult for youngster to go through the pages but very engaging stories.

Pretty funny. Though wish it was geared more towards smaller kids. The huge 43 letter German words to explain things is a bit much. My kid keeps asking what they mean. I can't even pronounce them to ask Google.

Love this book! My 9 yr old daughter reads it and looks at the pics over and over again! Bright colorful pictures with funny stories!

For the reluctant male reader, here is a high-interest book that will hold his attention. The stories are quite engaging and feature very unique animals, popular with this age group, with wonderful life-like brilliantly colored photos. The stories are also short enough that a young reader will not tire of the story before completing it. Since the book format is more of an anthology, the child can also "hop around", choosing stories of greater interest, rather than having to stick with reading the book in a particular order.
