I have been reading this book chapter by chapter, usually one a night or so as I have time. It is not a book that takes your hand and walks you through each and everything. It is more like a dictionary/encyclopedia reference book that covers all of the commands and capabilities of the program and describes how to use them. It is up to the reader to apply the knowledge for the most part. There are a few hands on examples but not a lot so far. Most of the pictures are in black and white which is okay for the menu type shots. It would be nice if the photo type shots were in color but that would really drive up the cost of the book. Most of the photo shots are available on the publisher's web site but there is one chapter in which half of the photos are missing on the web site even though the book says they are available. I think it is Chapter 13 but I don't remember for sure.

Ordered this after a colleague shared his CS4 version with me. The price is great and it is a very very useful tool for learning (or re-learning in my case) photoshop. I had been away from photoshop for more than 10 years and utilizing this book I was able to dive in head first at my new job and have now become the subject matter expert for graphic design in my office.

It's a dry read compared to the days when Deke McClelland was the Photoshop Bible author. For an overall Photoshop reference book it is OK. But my main complaint is that it must have gone to press using just the Beta version of Photoshop CS5, because important features of CS5 are not included. One example is the wonderful lens correction feature included with Camera Raw. In the book, the CS4 version of the lens correction dialog box is shown, with no mention or explanation of the expansive features of CS5. Same for the new "Process Version" used in CS5's updated camera raw. Again, the illustration in the book is of CS4. It's important for CS5 users to understand the new camera raw process version and whether to update your raw images or not.I think there was too much of a rush for it to go to press, and therefore the authors were not aware of some of the important new features of CS5. And as for the good old days of Deke McClelland - it is hard to believe how he could keep the reader rolling on the floor with laughter while plowing through a thousand page technical book. As far as I can tell as I've checked it for information I've needed this book must have almost everything anyone could need to know.

The title "Bible" implies a reference book. The authors state that was their intent. However, it is a very poor reference and poorly written to boot. It attempts to be a teaching tool as well, but it fails here as well. The previous versions of Photoshop Bible were indeed a good reference book on how to use Photoshop CS. For teaching tools for previous versions get some of Katrin Eismann's books or Scott Kelby's books both of which go step by step in describing procedures.

Great book that features every detail and answers every question you might have.

I THOUGHT that I knew Phtoshop. I wanted to give the Bible reference a shot and have not read even half of the book but have learned so much more about Photoshop. Excellent resource.
