First, our trip to the Seychelles was fantastic and this review is for the Seychelles only. With the amount of beauty present on La Digue and Praslin, the book has very little descriptions of this. Some information about alcohol use among the Seychellois are plain wrong, as well as boating companies. This makes you doubt the quality of the background study done for the book. Information on history, nature and culture is not at the level needed for an educated adult, with more information found on your first google search. The review of restaurants on Praslin is not representative of what you actually will get and the lack of any negative reviews in general is surprising, almost as to not step on any toes. Most resorts get positive reviews, but the differences between them are much larger than presented in the book (at least the ones we visited). Covers a bare minimum that an experienced traveller will figure out on their own without any guidance. Used to better guides than this from Lonely Planet. Seychelles should be re-examined and re-written.

These destinations are mostly about white sand beaches, palm trees, and crystal-clear blue water. This guide covers those things, and the various resorts, hotels and restaurants that complement those things, very well. But there's more.If you're interested in the history and culture of the islands, this book has you covered in that department too. Actually, it is this quality that makes the guide so good. You get a complete picture of the islands, and the book constantly reminds you that there's more to do here than lay on the beach. This is particularly true in sophisticated little Reunion, which is a fully-integrated legal department of France.Coverage is absolutely exhaustive, both geographically and for listings of hotels and restaurants. Recommendations are surprisingly candid, and critical where appropriate. That's a refreshing escape from travel guides that fill the "everything is good in its own way" formula.Tie all this up with nice historical and cultural contexts, and a section of practical matters that is perhaps a wee bit thin, and you've got a pretty darn good guide.

Of the three locations covered by this book, I can only attest to the Reunion portion of it, but I have to say, this was a very useful guide to an island with very few English language resources. While a bit brief in content (compared to the French edition, which has about three times as much content, and is solely dedicated to Reunion), the content was accurate and covered most of the major hikes, locations, and restaurants.

A personal must have for scouting out a country/city before travel. Sure internet information if more timely but I like the feel of a book in my hand and the reminder of trips past looking at the spines of the book on my travel shelf.

Not great...it would have been nice to have a bus map on Mahe or more information about taxi fares, ferry schedules, ...
