Working full-time and having a one-year-old at home, I want to cook meals for our whole family that are not too challenging, relatively quick to make, and healthy. I found the recipe names incredibly intimidating--and then I tried them, and I was so pleasantly surprised! These were not too tricky to make, as the instructions are clear and pictures are helpful. (I have tried about ten of them so far.) More importantly, it's making it easy for me to feed my family whole foods, teach my son to eat veggies and fruits, and even trick my husband into eating healthy, too. I have many cookbooks in this "feeding babies and adults simultaneously" genre, and this is the only one I would buy for a friend.

My all time most used and well loved cookbook.I gave my sister my old edition covered in splatters and pencilled in recipe notes and bought this beauty with gorgeous photos! I also bought a copy to give as a gift.My fave recipes include yakisoba in broth, quinoa chili, and maple butter granola.

I’m disappointed because I was hoping for a book filled with some solid recipes that my 1 and 2.5 year olds would eat, and recipes that were quicker, easier, with less prep than the ones here. I feel like this book is trying too hard to make “fancy” food for kids. Don’t get me wrong, we love exotic, international flavors, and I actually love to cook in-depth recipes that have me matchstick cutting carrots and cucumbers for Vietnamese Spring Rolls-but NOT when i just got home from work and I have two hungry boys demanding dinner. I have plenty of cookbooks for when I have the time and audience for that. What I was hoping for here was a “meet in the middle” collection of recipes. Like, not your typical kid food, but maybe not as complex and time consuming as adult meals. Having two tiny kids, I need quick, healthy, and maybe a little unique. And I don’t need several recipes for pancakes. Or many recipes with tempeh, either.I’m bummed. Will be returning.

I've struggled to eat healthily, but the recipes in this are full of spices and delicious. I've branched out of my normal comfort zone.Only drawback: I wish the book would lay flat or there were a binder version.

In addition to enticing recipes and practical tips such as which cooking technique will coax the most flavor from a particular vegetable, Cynthia Lair’s 4th edition of Feeding the Whole Family features beautiful photos to help cooks visualize the end product. For those who already have their favorite tried-and-true Lair recipes, you’ll find them here, plus 45 new ones. The beauty of them is they’re adaptable for eaters of all ages and easy to make. The emphasis on eating whole, delicious foods in the company of loved ones, encourages good health on many levels. Always mindful of busy schedules, many of the recipes can be on the table in less than 30 minutes. If you’re a new, “healthy eater,” spend time in the Wholesome Family Eating chapter to familiarize yourself with the concept of whole foods and why they matter. And then, close your eyes, flip to a recipe and have fun cooking!

we really like this book, lots of options to introduce whole food eating into our meals. Generally speaking, our toddlers will eat most of them, unless it's a "i'm not eating anything" type of night.

Recipes were way too complicated for my preference.

I love this book and not just for the information on nutrition or the recipes or even the pictures which make me drool. I love Cynthia's prose. She's got a way with adjectives. Even the book itself is better than most just for having cover flaps which double as page savers.
