This book did contain some interesting or valuable information. This is the only reason I gave it two stars. As for the floor plans, they were the usual architectural crap that one sees in house plan catalogs sold at magazine stands these days. Log cabins used to be open floor plans, which allowed flexible use of the space. But, adding walls to divide up floor space not only wastes a lot of usable space, but make the cost of construction excessively high. Further, these unnecessary walls prevent an adequate fireplace from heating the entire cabin. And, every design calls for the bathing and toilet facilities being in the same room. So, when someone is taking a long, hot shower, anyone who has an urgent call of nature must make like a bear in the woods. You might as well have an outhouse. In conclusion, this book didn't provide much in the way of ideas or designs of the practical pioneer cabin that I was looking for.

Not as complete as I thought it would be. A good historical reference.

Very cool! Loved to see all the older designs. Using it to give some inspiration on a home I would like to build.

This is actually an excellent little guide with practical choices of several simple but classic home styles. Based on the guide originally published in 1972, it gives all the required information (plan details) to build the homes included. There is not a lot of text or explanation of building techniques, only the plans, text with use and design considerations and plan details. I actually really recommend this book for those looking for complete plans for a vacation or small home they could afford to build

This is an excellent book for building ideas! I love it. It is old, but that's what makes the houses and cabin classic! This is a good buy!
