I'm a newly-reconciled Catholic while my family remains nondenominational Protestant. One half the major tenets of Protestantism is sola scriptura, the notion that there is no need for traditional spiritual text other than the Bible. You can imagine my surprise and delight when I opened up this book and discovered it was full of Bible readings! It was almost disappointing for me, it so closely resembled what I imagine Protestant prayer books would be like, if they had any (not counting the Anglican Common Book of Prayer, if that's right). All the "non-Biblical" text is so appropriate to the given holiday (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter) or event (going to work, kid's going to school) it had my family stumped--"It must not actually be Catholic. Maybe the author was Christian and converted," they said, and I had to explain that the U.S.C.C.B. is about as authoritative Catholic as you can get and "as you can see, Catholics are Christian."I'd like to thank the Bishops for putting this together. People like me, who didn't grow up with tradition. find this fascinating; it's a beautiful way to get things going and keep our Lord's Gospel in our minds, on our lips, and in our hearts.

I think the item that Amazon is shipping is an earlier edition. What I received was not the one the listing described. It was copyright 2007 not the 2012. Also, the one I received only had 504 pages not the 528 pages of the revised copy. I will still use it but I was hoping to receive the latest edition.
